Simple and weighted index number

Weighted aggregative index numbers: These index numbers are the simple aggregative type with the fundamental difference that weights are assigned to the   30 Sep 2013 So… if you know about this practice (that I don't know the name for, I call it Weighted index) or not; here we go. I'll start with a story… [UPDATED]  The aggregative value index happens to exceed the simple value indices ( Both Laspeyres- and Paasche- index numbers are the weighted average of the …

28 Aug 2014 The total dollar value of receiver sales for January is found by multiplying ( weighting) each January price by the number of units sold, then  most of the index number formulas exhibited in Chapters fixed-basket index) as a share-weighted arithmetic average There is a relatively simple formula. 1.5 Runs of Index Numbers: Switching and Splicing 2.3 Derived Concept: Paasche (current-weighted) Index 53 simple as possible in mathematical terms . This paper uses index number theory to disentangle changes in aggregate retail interest rates First, reporting institutions calculate weighted average interest rates of all the simple average of the initial and final period, we can use all the   When we do a simple mean (or average), we give equal weight to each number. Here is the mean of 1, 2, 3 and 4: weighted average equal. Add up the numbers  Index number. Unweighted. Weighted (or Arithmetic Mean method). (i) Simple aggregative method. If Σp1 is the sum total of current prices of commodities under

We give below an example each of the simple price index and the weighted price index. Simple Price Index: To construct a simple price index, compute the price relatives and average them. Add the price relatives and divide them by the number of items. Table 64.1 illustrates the construction of a simple index of wholesale prices.

There are different ways of construction of index numbers. In general, construction of index number is further available for the division in two parts: Simple and Weighted. Furthermore, the simple method is classified into simple aggregative and simple relative. In the case of a value-weighted index, the amount of outstanding shares comes into play. To determine the weight of each stock in a value-weighted index, the basic formula (without getting too complex for demonstrative purposes) is to multiply the price of the stock by the number of outstanding shares. Compute the weighted aggregative price index numbers for $$1981$$ with $$1980$$ as the base year using (1) Laspeyre’s Index Number (2) Paashe’s Index Number (3) Fisher’s Ideal Index Number (4) Marshal-Edgeworth Index Number. There are two methods of computing the index numbers: (a) Simple index number and (b) Weighted index number. Simple index number again can be constructed either by – (i) Simple aggregate method, or by (ii) simple average of price relative’s method. Similarly, weighted index number can be constructed either by (i) weighted aggregative method The index number that is computed after assigning due weightage to different items under study is called weighted index number. In such a case, weights are assigned in an explicit manner either on the basis of the quantities, or on the basis of the values of the items consumed, or on any other rational basis.
